Seen & Heard: More light at PS 234

MORE PROGRESS AT PS 234
J. sent this latest shot: the Chambers Street side of PS 234 exposed, finally. What a relief.

ANNUAL CHABAD STREET FAIR
Rock the Block, Chabad of Tribeca will host its annual block party called Rock the Block on Sunday, September 8, 11a to 1p, on Duane between Greenwich and Hudson. There will be corn hole, ping pong, basketball, chess, moon bounces, slides, pony rides, the Mitzvah Club project, a bubble station and more. Plus a toddler area and youth zone for kids 6 to 12. RSVP required for security purposes.

TREE DEDICATED TO PETER HORT
The family of longtime Tribecan Peter Hort, who died in October 2022, dedicated a street tree in his honor on Hudson and Laight. Peter was a lawyer and art collector and died from bile duct cancer at the age of 51. He was also the father of four children whom he raised here in the neighborhood with his wife, Jamie.

DAILY PROVISIONS COMING TO HUDSON EATS
A. spotted it first: Daily Provisions, the restaurateur Danny Meyer’s all-day cafe, is coming to Hudson Eats, upstairs at Brookfield Place. They have breakfast all day, plus made-to-order sandwiches, salads and seasonal soups in the afternoon, a dinner menu inclusive of roast chicken and classic sides, and baked goods. They have six locations now; the first opened on 19th Street next to Union Square Cafe in 2017. More when they open. “It’s SO good,” A. said. “I get their chickpea salad and my husband loves their breakfast sandwiches and everything croissant. Their coffee is incredibly solid as is their granola. We like the small West Village location.”

  1. I want to personally thank the Hort family for the lovely tree honoring Peter Hort. Peter and I became friends many years ago when we were teamed up as Election Monitors–he the Republican and I the Democrat–to spend the entire day checking downtown polling sites. I discovered then what a fair, honest and deeply caring person he was, and I continued to reach out to him on political and community matters when I desperately needed a straight answer. He is sorely missed.
