Sneak Peek: Falafel Tanami

So for starters, it’s Ta-na-mee, and it is now in the Tribeca Citizen Pronunciation Guide.

My 22-year-old son Graham and his friend Leann headed over at the end of the evening on Monday to Falafel Tanami, the celebrated spot out of Midwood, Brooklyn, that has opened in half of the Juice Press space on Greenwich and Laight. There was a celebration going on for the opening day, and he happened to meet the CEO of Juice Press, Michael Karsch, who acquired the company in 2012 and has expanded it to 82 stores around the country. Karsch told him that when he read about Tanami in The Times, he convinced them to open in half of his shop here.

Everyone that has been in there in the last 24 hours has been raving. (Thanks to A. and E. for the shots.) Graham said the highlight for him was the garlic sauce and the pickles, the warm, fluffy pita, and, spoken like a true 22-year-old boy: “They had unlimited servings at the little condiments thing, which was great — a super fun feature of the restaurant (you just get to load up on as much as you want).”

There is ample seating along the windows, so you can watch the world go by; he said it wouldn’t be hard to seat a group of four if it’s not too crowded. Also the kids said not to skip the candy bars, which were just the right amount of sweet.

PS: The photo below is the falafel salad, $16, which A. thought was good value. More TK when I get over there and confirm hours, etc. The one in Brooklyn is open until 10p; Juice Press on Greenwich closes at 7…

  1. I got the salad today too. Pretty good indeed, but I was surprised it didn’t come with pita.

    • Great addition to the neighborhood! We need more fast casual dining places after the losses of Sweetgreen and Dig Inn. Happy to see Falafel Tanami and Olives coming in!

  2. Went yesterday. It was fantastic . I see why they were voted the best falafel in NYC.
