SCHOOL’S IN ON SEPTEMBER 5
Thursday, Sept. 5, is the first day of school for NYC public schools. And there are closings this fall for Rosh Hashana, Diwali, Election Day, Veterans Day, and of course Thanksgiving. See the schedule here.

LIBERATING MORE SIDEWALK
L. wrote that the sidewalk shed is down on 385 Broadway, the soon-to-open home of Marian Goodman Gallery. The gallery will open on Oct. 26. See more on that here.

LABOR DAY AT SEAPORT MUSEUM
South Street Seaport Museum is adding an extra open day for this weekend, so hours are 11a to 5p, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, August 30-September 2. Admission is pay what you wish. Free timed tickets for a tour of the 1908 lightship Ambrose are available separately at no additional cost. Trips on the 1885 Schooner Pioneer are Thursday–Sunday | 1pm, 4pm | $20–$50. Trips on the 1930 Tugboat W.O. Decker are Saturday, Sunday | 1:15pm, 2:45pm | $15–$30.
