EVENTS IN DUANE PARK SUNDAY
Sunday is the Friends of Duane Park’s Dinner on Duane — a fundraiser for the park where 200 people will eat outside — but leading up to that event, which starts at 5, is an afternoon of events from noon to 3p. There will be a progress update on the restoration proposal, a new Focus Group to review plans as they evolve, and a kids zone with music, balloons, lemonade and cookies.
DUNKIN DONUTS CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS
The Dunkin on Church and Murray is closed for renovations (thanks to K. for the shot) and it looks like they also got a Stop Work order in the process…
A CELEBRATION OF CONSTITUTION DAY
CultureNOW, the United States District Court for the District of New York, & the Lower Manhattan Historical Association will host an afternoon symposium about our Constitution and its ratification on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 5 to 7p, at the Daniel Patrick Moynihan United States Courthouse, Ceremonial Courtroom, at 500 Pearl Street. September 17, 1787 marks the signing of the US Constitution. George Washington wrote a cover letter explaining to the states why they should ratify it. On display will be a rare copy of the Constitution. Advance registration is necessary.
7-TON OCTOPUS AT WTC PLAZA
The sculptors Gillie and Marc have a 36-foot, 7-ton octopus on the World Trade Center Plaza, there till July 31, 2025. Their sculptures are designed to celebrate animals and bring awareness to endangered species.
NEXT HEARING ON PLANS FOR ROCKEFELLER PARK
BPCA will host a hybrid public hearing on the environmental impact statement for the North/West section — including Rockefeller Park and Tribeca — on Wednesday, Sept. 18, starting at 6p at Stuyvesant High School and virtually over Zoom. The hearing is part of the public comment period for the DEIS, which ends on Oct. 7. This hearing does not include a question-and-answer session, but there will be a presentation at the beginning.
