Old Kid, New Tricks: Nili Lotan for Men

Tribecan Nili Lotan, whose store has been on Duane Park since 2006, has opened a concept store for men across the street (in the former Tokyo Bay space) as both a showcase for her men’s collection — launched in 2023 — and a tribute to her longtime partner, musician David Broza. She opened the store  earlier this month with a party that featured Broza’s band and that spilled onto Duane Street.

The store has a corner dedicated to music — and the collection is striving for that low-key, off-hand, ’70s rock star vibe. Like her women’s designs, there’s a classical, timeless quality — at a price point, of course, that is not timeless, but the cost of fashion never is. (An especially handsome shirt — the Evander, in midnight and made from an especially heavy Italian cotton linen twill — was $750.)

In a Q&A with MR Magazine, Lotan said that Bob Dylan is her male style icon.

“What I like about Dylan’s identity is that that he’s the kind of guy that carries in him what’s cool,” she said. “He expresses masculinity with poetic and creative soul. This is the man I am inspired to dress.

“On a personal level, I am designing to my husband’s persona. For David, clothes serve to communicate who he is, not to define him. He’s got a full life and is so involved in what he’s doing that it’s not about the clothes. Again, it’s about the attitude he brings to the clothes.”

The store will also feature an espresso bar within a month or so, offering lattes, espressos, cappuccinos, etc, from the same beans as the coffee at Frenchette, Cafe Integral.

Plus the opening night was such a hit, they are also planning on more events. Stay tuned.
