Seen & Heard: Daylight on Murray Street

DAYLIGHT ON MURRAY
The sidewalk shed around 253 Broadway, which snakes around down Murray as well, is coming down. S. wrote to say she thinks it has been up for 20 years. “It is so nice to see the Eastern sky when walking down Murray Street!” she said. Here’s hoping the Broadway side is next…

NEW TENANT FOR 88 WEST BROADWAY
Could this sign *not* be for an illegal cannabis store?? Seems unlikely, but taking it at face value for now. The former Miriam space, which for a while was Jungle on Mars, has new signage for what might become a sandwich shop called Flavor Taste. There’s also a notice on the door: Jungle on Mars owes the landlord there $64,000 in rent. That’s what happens when you rent to what you know is an illegal use…

GREENING THE STREETSCAPE
I was very pleased with myself for this photo but also want to shoutout to Marc Forgione, who has the best streetscape greenery in the neighborhood. (Or tell me a better spot…)

NEW TECH FOR CITI BIKES
Docked in Chinatown the other day and these new docks have a cute chime when you are locked in. Haven’t seen them anywhere else…

  1. There are a few of those slotless Citi Bike docks around- off the top of my head Murray & West (between West & Greenwich) has had them for at least a year. They can draw power individually from solar cells, so eventually they will be able to charge the electric bikes (perhaps with some modification?)
