Fire shuts down Tre Sorelle

Tre Sorelle, the family-owned restaurant that has been on Reade for 13 years, has been forced to close after a fire did major damage to the restaurant.

I will update this post when I hear directly from the Tre Sorelle folks; what I know now is from Instagram thanks to G. (The image below is from the IG post.)

A call was received by the FDNY on Oct. 7 at 7am, and 12 units responded, including 60 fire and EMS personnel. The fire was under control by 8:17am. No one was injured and the cause is still under investigation by the FDNY Fire Marshal.

The fire caused significant structural damage, which will require the cost of repairs and, of course, lost revenue at the same time.

“We’re heartbroken, but determined to rebuild and serve our community again,” their post said. “Our family-owned restaurant has become a gathering place for friends and family, and we’re committed to restoring it to its former glory.”

Tre Sorelle opened in November 2011, when the three sisters — tre sorelle — Antonia Pati, Marie Liotto and Fran Cotona converted a non-descript Chinese restaurant into the cozy spot it is now, with the brick pizza oven as the main attraction in the center. The sisters were born in Calabria’ Fran’s husband Vinnie, who ran the restaurant, had family from Naples. At the time they all lived in Tribeca. The sisters’ mother was the chef at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Mott Street for 30 years.

Tre Sorelle makes an appearance on the Tribeca Pronunciation Guide as well as my list of moderately priced restaurants, a dying breed.
