What’s doing for Halloween

There’s lots going on for Halloween, starting the weekend before the big day. As usual, neighborhood storefronts will be handing out candy on Thursday, Oct. 31, shortly after school gets out.

WASHINGTON MARKET PARK

NB: a lot of visitors are expected, so leave extra time to board and ride the ferry. See the full schedule here.

LEMAN MANHATTAN
The 10th annual Leman Manhattan Halloween Bash will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 to noon, at the school at 41 Broad. Enjoy a bubble show, slime-making, crafts, music, food, and more! This event is for children in 2nd grade and below only. $20 per family for the general public. Get tickets here.

BOGARDUS PLAZA SCAVENGER HUNT
The Friends of Bogardus Plaza will host its Annual Great Tribeca Scavenger Hunt — not a Halloween event per se, but since it’s the big Halloween weekend, it’s added here. Your team (self selected) will race around Tribeca collecting points by solving missions, learning local lore through trivia questions and being creative with photos and videos. The top 11 teams will get prizes – and they are GREAT this year. Tickets are $35 and the game is intended for kids over 8 and adults. Sign up here.

THE SEAPORT
The pumpkin arch on the north side of Pier 17 is up now through Nov. 3. There will also be a Block Party for kids on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 3 to 5p: live music performance from urban cowboy musician Hopalong Andrew from 4:00-4:45pm, as well as pumpkin-painting, face-painting, Halloween crafts activities and, of course, a celebration of attendees’ fabulous costumes. Register here since it sells out.

BROOKFIELD PLACE
Brookfield is hosting a Halloween Hunt throughout the mall from October 25 – 31. Grab a map from the Concierge at 230 Vesey Street and complete fun activities around BFPL. Finish four tasks for a coloring bag and treats.

  1. Why does Blood Manor get to barricade off the entire block between Leonard and Franklin plus use a portion of Leonard street for their ticket trailer for 5-6 weeks each year. They are only open evenings 3-4 days a week but have the street blocked 24 hours a day. DSNY quickly dismisses any complaints, hmmm. Wonder why??? How does one little store front get free use of an entire city block and disrupt street access for all the other buildings on the block?
