Seen & Heard: Hobby Lobby construction happening?

HOBBY LOBBY CONSTRUCTION?
A. noticed that someone has put a door in the plywood wall that was covering the entrance to the old Bed, Bath & Beyond. I have a note out to the Hobby Lobby press office to see if they are under construction in there…

BEARD PAPA’S COMING TO FIDI
N. caught the news: Beard Papa’s, the giant international chain of…cream puffs is opening its third NYC location at 29 John on Nov. 16. The cream puffs have a double-layered puff–choux on the inside, and pie crust on the outside. The filling is made with a mixture of whipped and vanilla bean custard cream, and also comes in chocolate and matcha. There’s currently a location on 53rd and St. Mark’s.

FLASHING BACK WITH JANE FREEMAN
Longtime Tribecan Jane Freeman sent me photos of the neighborhood taken in the 1980s and ’90s, on our quest to find a picture of 317 Greenwich. And along with it she found this shot of Dudley’s Paw, which was at 325 Greenwich for 27 years until 2019, as well as the diorama she created for Yvonne Fox’s store one Thanksgiving. “It was a feast for turkeys and other animals,” Jane said. “I also did a diorama of the entire store inside and out, which Yvonne Fox has.”

  1. Hobby Lobby uses notions of religious freedom to disguise their bigotry toward women and people of color. There are other places to buy arts and crafts supplies including:

SoHo Art Materials – 3 Wooster Street
    Blick – 443 Broadway
Scrap Yard NYC – 300 Broadway
Paper Source – 211 West Broadway
    Target
    and many online sources

    • Words cannot express how much I miss the Barnes & Noble

      • Amen! B&N was a beacon of light in the community. The Mysterious Bookshop is great as well, so book lovers should support them as well. I think B&N missed crucial opportunities to expand once Staples closed. They could have sold computer printer paper and ink, expanded their cafe, while maintaining their rep. Evolution is the key to survival in the fluid tsunami of change heading our way.

  2. I miss Barnes and Nobles.

  3. I despise Hobby Lobby and there will be no mention of it on FiDi Fan Page. I’m hoping it fails miserably.

  4. How many times, on a summer afternoon, did I sit on the doorsill at Dudley’s Paw with Dudley beside me. He would lean against me and we would watch the world go by. If it included a dog on a leash Dudley would manage a little, very muted woof. So cute. I miss Dudley.
