The ness, the trampoline workout that was founded here in 2019, will open its new (cool) studio at 200 Church on Nov. 16, with classes starting then and additional wellness amenities to follow in early 2025.
The studio offers dance-based trampoline and sculpt classes — high intensity, low-impact — in small group settings. And after the new year they will expand with more fitness classes and amenities — locker rooms, a retail space, a sauna, cold plunge, a private training studio, and private training sessions, including reformer Pilates. (The images of the space below are renderings.)
The idea for The Ness — think happi(ness) or fit(ness) or well(ness) or just choose your favorite ‘ness — was launched at Bari, the former fitness studio on Leonard. Aly Giampolo and Colette Dong were both professional dancers, and had met at the contemporary troupe they perform with, but bonded over one particular class they were teaching: trampoline cardio. Bari closed in fall 2018, and by the next March, the two were installed on the third floor of 406 Broadway with a row of west-facing windows and a few layers of rubber beneath the wood floors.
“At the ness, there’s no pressure to conform to any specific idea of being ‘fit’ or bend over backwards for the sake of wellness,” Aly said. “We can’t wait to welcome everyone through our new doors and continue emphasizing the joy and healing that come from collective movement.”
More TK soon after they open.
