November 15, 2024 Restaurant/Bar News
Thanks to Jon for the heads up, since I blew off the CB1 meeting agendas this month (not on purpose…): The former Harry’s space in the Goldman breezeway is on deck to become Seppe Pizza Bar, a “gourmet” pizza joint out of Staten Island.
According to a story from the Staten Island Advance, the SI place is owned by two brothers — Joe and John Iovino — former bartenders from The Dead Rabbit, so expect lots of specialty cocktails. They opened in December 2018 in Stapleton, on the northeast side of the island just north of the Verrazzano.
The place looks very cute. The pizza comes in three forms — 12-inch squares, 18-inch rectangles and individual rounds. No slices.
They made it on the Michelin Guide’s list of best NYC pizzas in 2021, despite this dis: “Seppe Pizza Bar might be located in Staten Island, but we promise it’s worth it.” They went on: “First things first—peruse the cocktail menu, where savory and spicy drinks are a welcome alternative to too-sweet swizzles. Order a house spritz or a Negroni, then settle in to review the sprawling menu. Start with one of their fantastic pizzas with beautiful crispy bottoms, such as the unusually delicious Morty pizza, finished with a layer of pistachio-based pesto with mozzarella, and garnished with burrata and slices of mortadella. And while there are so many shareable plates, be sure to save room for their baked wings with a perfect char, or decadent pastas, like the cacio e pepe, both of which deliver on flavor.”

Cool! We were disappointed to lose Harry’s but this sounds like a great pizza spot – look forward to trying it.
I can definitely recommend this spot when it opens, the SI restaurant is the real deal. Probably be an overall upgrade on Harry’s…
Excited for this new place to open! Missed Harry’s a lot, and knowing it’s SI location is really good, I’m hopeful this location is much the same!

The best Italian / Pizza places are in the Italian ethnic outer borough neighborhoods.
https://www.seppepizzabar.com/ – not really in the best area but I’m pretty sure parking is provided. Metered on street parking on Front Street too, no ASP, but don’t park on Prospect Street.
Great news!
Seppe is incredible and I am so excited for this to finally open! Not only is the pizza fantastic, so is the rest of the menu too.
Glad to hear!
Wow! A pizza joint! We have so few of them in the nabe!
