Japanese restaurant coming to Murray Street

The sushi chef Yukihiro Takeda and his wife and business partner, Satomi Tanaka, are opening opening an eponymous restaurant soonish on Murray — and I assume closing their current place on the Upper West Side, since they are always present there? Or maybe this will be his second joint.

Community Board 1’s Licensing Committee approved his liquor license for 6 Murray (which was once Manhattan Proper) with hours starting at 4p Monday through Saturday, and noon on Sunday. The applicants described the restaurant as Japanese fine dining and omakase and if I heard them correctly, there will be two seatings with a maximum of 10 people each. (Their application said there would be one table with 12 seats and a bar with eight seats in the 1500-square-foot space.)

His restaurant on Amsterdam opened in 2019 has been noted by Eater and the blog I Love the Upper West Side, both with glowing reviews. The Sushi Legend said it was flying under the radar, but would not for long, describing it as “resolutely focused on seasonality, especially from Japan’s Ishikawa and Toyama Prefectures, home to Kanazawa, Toyama Bay and, more importantly, Toyama itself, where Satomi herself is from.” That’s their video below.

An omakase course uptown is $280, which puts it on the low end (!) for Tribeca omakase, if you can believe that.
