No one believes me — not even local shopkeepers — when I say there are 60 shops in Tribeca proper. So there is no reason to NOT shop local. My pals and I hit all 60 over the past week, and I can promise you, there are treasures out there.
For the 2024 Shop-Local Gift Guide, expect entries this and next week on kids, threads, baubles, home goods, food, the unique among the unique and the most difficult category: teens.
A few notes: Willow & Zoey and Tea Dealers are new to the list. And since last year’s shopping outing, a couple of retailers have closed: OK Unform, which had been in the neighborhood for decades, and Rose Box, a wholesaler of freeze-dried roses that had its factory on Franklin. Everafter is still open but closing all its outlets soon.
We tried to suggest a high and a low, but for some of our shops — more power to them — it’s a high/high. And in some cases we were just drawn to items whether the price was low, high or in the middle. Still, it doesn’t cost a penny to look.
These lists are all Tribeca, all the time, save for one special outlier: Pearl River Mart, for the obvious reasons and for the exceptional shopping.
