THE TC COCKTAIL
I don’t drink hard liquor so someone report back and let me know how the Tribeca Citizen cocktail is at the Warren Street Hotel bar. G. spotted it there — I had no idea! (Maybe they could add a QR code for newsletter sign-ups…) It’s rum (gross — do people actually drink rum still??), Campari, Falemum (I had to look that up — it’s a syrup liqueur with flavors of ginger, lime and almond, and frequently cloves or allspice), pineapple, lime, demerara (another Wikipedia assist! rum from Guyana distilled from sugarcane) and allspice bitters. Yowza! Sounds like Christmas in the Caribbean!
DUANE PARK GROUNDHOG DAY FUNDRAISER
The Friends of Duane Park will host a fundraiser on Groundhog Day, Feb. 2, 4 to 6p, with their “Beverage and a Bite” event in the late afternoon that Sunday. Immediately following the all-ages ice sculpting event in the park, 100 adult ticket holders will be invited to enjoy one signature Duane Park cocktail and a nibble at participating neighborhood businesses: Aztech Mountain, Casa, Duane Park Patisserie, Elan Flowers, The Hideaway, Little More and Tribeca Wine Merchants. Every 20 minutes or so, ticket holders will move to another business. Tickets are 100, until Dec 31, then $125 per person. Contact benefit@duanepark.org for more info.
STAR LIGHT STAR BRIGHT
The Downtown Alliance is hosting a public art installation titled “Star Light Star Bright” at 140 Broadway through January 9. (Rendering courtesy of Hou de Sousa, the designers, as seen from above.) Visitors can attach their “wishes” to the 22-foot structure, which is lined by 1,200 colorful chains and over 75,000 individual links for tying fluorescent wish ribbons. As each wish ribbon is added, the installation grows larger and brighter.
NEW PASSAGE DOWN DUANE EAST OF BROADWAY
Charlie Komanoff wrote a little while ago that the city finally opened the sidewalk at the northeast corner of Duane and Broadway, which means you can also ride your bike that way through to Chinatown or up Centre on the bike path. The passageway replaces the former sealed-off corner that had necessitated using the narrow and awkward SE corner. The passageway goes onto the sidewalk, and curb cuts lead from the sidewalk onto the (closed) street between the two federal buildings.
Zacapa 23 is very high quality rum and yes, people still drink rum. What an odd thing to add to your post.
