December 23, 2024 Restaurant/Bar News
B. sent a note that the bar associated with the booze company Hercules Mulligan has opened at The Seaport at 220 Front, between Peck Slip and Beekman. It’s called The Herc, and it’s in the heart of the South Street Seaport Historic District in a building owned by the Durst Organization.
The distillery Five & 20, in Westfield, NY, which is west of Buffalo on Lake Erie, makes the rum and rye for Hercules Mulligan; the tap room on Front will serve those plus their own beers on tap, which I am guessing are also brewed upstate.
The liquor company started in 2019 and is mainly direct to consumer; this is their first taproom. The connection to the neighborhood is historical: Hercules Mulligan was a revolutionary war hero, but also a tailor whose shop was at what is 218 Pearl Street now — the Pearl Diner. (An Irish immigrant, Mulligan came with his family in 1740 and opened the shop in 1774.)
More soon when I can get over there, but in the meantime, expect live music, tasting flights, wine and beer. Hours are 5p to 11p, Wednesday to Friday, and 4p to 11p Saturday and Sunday.
