TRIBECA AMONG THE 14 BEST RESTAURANTS IN NYC
The Times has created its list of the 14 (it’s getting smaller!) best restaurants in the city, and once again Eulalie makes it. “Chef Chip Smith brings his Southern upbringing and his French training to his prix-fixe menus, now priced at $125,” Pete Wells wrote. And Le Veau d’Or on East 60th Street is the latest venture from Frenchette owners Lee Hanson and Riad Nasr. “The food is nostalgic and precise. There’s a scene-stealing duck with crisp skin and a flush of cherry jam, and the île flottante is a perky, not-too-sweet swirl of meringue that’s as light as cotton candy.” The Times wrote.
AN UPDATE ON THE SCHNIPPERS FOLKS
For those of you who still miss Schnipper’s, the burger chain’s founders, who also had Hale and Hearty, have launched Schnipper’s Quality Soups in their original Hale and Hearty headquarters at 849 Lexington Avenue, according to Eater.
NEW CLASSIC FOR SPRING STREET
Eater reports that Lina Goujjane, whose family owned One If By Land, Two If By Sea — “routinely considered one of the city’s most romantic restaurants, starting in 1973 until they sold it about a decade ago” — has opened Kiko, with an East-Meets-West menu at 307 Spring at Greenwich in Hudson Square.
A LOOK AT THE SHIGERU BAN PENTHOUSE
Wallpaper has a tour of the penthouse at the Cast Iron House, desinged by Shigeru Ban. “The two-storey, 3,800 sq ft structure installed in 2006 onto a historic cast-iron building was just not up to scratch. Despite having 360-degree views, it was dark and almost entirely cut off from its 3,400 sq ft exterior terrace, causing it to remain unoccupied for more than ten years.” Peterson Rich Office redesigned it by adding a sculptural staircase and openings to the large terrace.
