A new gallery is opening tonight in the Tribeca Hardware space

Sonia Stock caught these images last night and a quick Google revealed that Keyes Art Gallery is opening tonight in the former Tribeca Hardware space at 154 Chambers. The opening reception for this show, titled Rolling Thunder, is from 6 to 8p.

Julie Keyes has a gallery in Sag Harbor as well as an art consultancy business that now more than 30 years old. “We specialize in curating private client collections, providing personalized consultancy and commissions, while also partnering with architectural and design professionals, as well as exclusive hoteliers, to select outstanding contemporary art that enhances their spaces,” their website says.

The gallery here will include work from Nathan Slate Joseph, Rozeal, Fay Lansner, John MacWhinnie, Lucy Villeneuve, William Harrington, Walter Bobbie, Claude Lawrence, Leslee Stradford, Mustafa Maluka, Elisabetta Zangrandi, Peter Solow, Judith Henriques-Adams, Paul Davis, Tammy Smith, Michael A. Butler and Halstead S. Welles.

More soon, if they are here to stay (and not just popping up). Wanted to get this up quick in case anyone wanted to catch the opening.

Tribeca Hardware’s closing was one of the tougher losses of the pandemic — they had been on the block for decades and closed in July 2020. (Thank goodness there’s still Tribeca Paint, or, as I said at the time, with no storefront businesses like that, we become less like a neighborhood and more like one that plays one on TV.)

It will be great to have the lights on in that space after five years of darkness.

  1. I’m glad to have lots of galleries in the area. For hardware stores, remember there is also Chinatown Building Supply, perhaps just outside the formal edge of Tribeca, on Walker and Broadway.

  2. I miss having a place that could make KEYS.
