New Kid at the Seaport: Lawn Club

The Lawn Club at the Seaport has been brewing forever — I think it was first announced in spring 2021 — and the cavernous (20,000 square feet) space is finally open and equipped with all sorts of games, multiple bars and hangout spots. Though for me the #1 attraction is definitely the outdoor curling setup, just to the left of the entrance. Must get there before winter is up.

This was the former 10 Corso Como space (it still makes me a bit sad that all that elaborate tile and decor was torn out), and originally it was to be helmed by the chef Wylie Dufresne, a James Beard award winner for best chef in NYC. That never came to be, but the inside is now divided into tons of courts offering a smorgasbord of of lawn games: bocce, Kan Jam, Ladders, cornhole, croquet, and a couple beer games straight off the college circuit: Beersbee, which involves a frisbee and a couple poles, and a adaptation of beer pong for a lawn environment.

The rates are not bad IMO: to book a lawn for eight people tonight at 7:30 it’s $159, and the lawns have food and bev service. There’s a good draft beer and mocktail list ($8 to $11), wine comes in around $14 and cocktails at $18. The menu runs the pub-food gamut at fair prices: wings, burgers, hot pretzels, all sorts of fries and sandwiches. A burger is $14 and they have gluten free buns.

It is definitely custom built for the work outing and the 20-somethings — the music is pretty loud and without windows, it feels a bit like the Lotus Casino — but I can see carving out some fun here with a teen or even (despite the volume) a 50-something birthday party.
