Seen & Heard: Helping out a longtime neighbor

RECOVERING FROM FIRE
Longtime local trainer Oscar Smith has his studio in 45 White, which was ravaged by fire last week. And while he had insurance on his practice, he did not have it on his rented space. So he has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help him deal with the damage from smoke and water. The plan is to spend the next several months fixing the building — he hopes to be back in business by July.

FREE SUNDAYS AT THE 9/11 MUSEUM
The 9/11 Memorial & Museum is expanding free hours for New Yorkers to visit the museum on the first Sunday of each month starting Sunday, February 2 through the end of the year. (The free days were previously Mondays.) All interested visitors who work, live, or study in New York City and the surrounding area should be prepared to show a valid ID upon entry. Tickets become available on a rolling basis each month. More info here.

MOONGARDEN AT THE SEAPORT
If you missed a holiday walkabout this year, the glowy public art installation moonGARDEN is still at the Seaport. There are multiple orbs like this one, with fun stuff going on inside. The orbs themselves are inspired by set theory — a branch of mathematical logic that essentially focuses on the collection of objects. Learn more about it here, or just walk over.
