Seen & Heard: Duane Park events for Groundhog Day this Sunday

DUANE PARK GROUNDHOG DAY EVENTS
The Friends of Duane Park will host its annual ice sculpting event in the park, with a snow machine (needed these days) and snacks on Groundhog Day, Feb. 2, 2 to 4p. Following that they have organized a pub crawl around the park with their “Beverage and a Bite” event from 4 to 6. Up to 100 adult ticket holders will be invited to enjoy one signature Duane Park cocktail and a nibble at participating neighborhood businesses: Aztech Mountain, Casa, Duane Park Patisserie, Elan Flowers, The Hideaway, Little More and Tribeca Wine Merchants. Every 20 minutes or so, ticket holders will move to another business. Tickets are $125. Contact benefit@duanepark.org for more info.

ACCIDENT AT SMYTH HOTEL?
A. sent photos this morning: it looks like workers are reassembling the sidewalk bridge that just went up around the Smyth hotel. Her guess is that a cab ran into the structure? I think she may be right. I will see what I can learn. In the meantime, walk on the other side for sure…

HUSO OPENS NEXT WEEK
The restaurant behind Marky’s Caviar helmed by Top Chef Buddha Lo will open next week. Stay tuned.

REVISITING THE MIRACLE ON THE HUDSON
The Trib has a series of photographs on Instagram revisiting the Hudson River landing of the US Airways Airbus 320 and its time tied up to Battery Park City. The “Miracle on the Hudson” was 16 years ago this week.

  2. I live upstairs in the Smyth and heard the impact…A white BMW hit the cab in the intersection around 3a…. BMW spun backwards down W Broadway and almost into the boom parked out front for the facade work. Cab got knocked into corner bridge supports and light post, and came thisclose to crashing into the restaurant and/or subway entrance. Cabbie and passenger trapped inside until FDNY could pry open its doors. Very lucky no pedestrians around. Cops said the intersection has bad juju

  3. yes, it’s a terrible intersection – representing a greatest hits in ill-conceived bike lane, turning lane, in-street parking lane urban planning. there have been many accidents–it needs a complete re-think that likely won’t happen until someone dies, unfortunately.
