In the News: Today’s deadline for congestion pricing

WASHINGTON’S THREATS TO END CONGESTION PRICING
Today is the deadline that Trump officials issued for the end of congestion pricing, but The Times analysis said that “New York leaders have vowed to continue charging the tolls. And while the March 21 deadline is largely symbolic, it could be a prelude to a broader legal and political battle that could drag out for years.”

AZTECH MOUNTAIN’S PRECISION AND PERFORMANCE
The Times has a glowing review for the technical fabrics and lack of “flashy branding” for the threads at Aztech Mountain, founded by Tribecans Anthony Rutgers and David Roth, and “tailored for those who would rather chase first tracks off the Silver Queen gondola than champagne showers at the Cloud Nine bistro.” The Times goes on: “In a category of over-the-top glitz and logo-heavy excess, where luxury ski labels have turned the slopes into a runway, Aztech Mountain prioritizes performance and precision… Its clothing is defined by thoughtful details: mountain-shaped zippers, streamlined silhouettes and the right hit of neon and print. It’s a label recognized through knowing nods in the gondola, a quiet badge of insider status.”

THE PRICE OF EGGS
The owner of the Square Diner, Teddy Karounos, was interviewed in an ABC News piece about the price of eggs and how that will translate to costs for the business this year. “If things hold up at this price, and we stay as busy as we were last year, I’ll pay $70,000 more for eggs than I did last year,” he told ABC News. “I can’t just absorb that hit for the next nine months.”

LISA SCHIFF SENTENCED TO 2.5 YEARS
Artnet reports that art advisor Lisa Schiff, whose business was on White, was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison, with two years supervised release, in federal court this week. The Times also has an interview with her: “It was her first time speaking openly about her crimes. But the setting for this unburdening wasn’t her old $25,000-a-month TriBeCa loft, or the V. I.P. lounge at Art Basel Miami Beach where she once brokered art deals for the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio; rather, it was a two-bedroom apartment in Manhattan’s unfussy Stuyvesant Town, where, she said, she needs her parents to pay her rent. Ms. Schiff, 55, has lost her money, all her friends and every shred of influence.”

  1. Duffy is flailing at this point. He knows the Feds have no case to rescind the approval, so it’s all bluster and threats. Even in his tweet, he mentioned approval of the natural gas pipelines, so he’s clearly trying to angle for a trade.

He offers up an unasked for 30-day extension while ‘discussions continue’. What a joke.

  2. I believe the “deadline” was extended by 30 days (or the end of month, can’t quite remember..)

  3. It’s a great time then to quit eggs for good, considering the cruel horrors of the egg industry.
