HONORING IMMIGRANT ACHIEMENT DOWNTOWN
The Lower Manhattan Historical Association presented its Alexander Hamilton Immigrant Achievement Awards in a ceremony on March 14 at Federal Hall, honoring Graeme Birchall (New Zealand), the president of Downtown Boathouse, which operates on Pier 26; Tribecan Daniel Libeskind (Poland), the founding architect of Studio Libeskind; Ya-Ting Liu (Taiwan), the deputy mayor for operations; and the chef and restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson (Ethiopia and Sweden) who has the restaurant at the NYC PAC (and of course among others). The awards are given to naturalized citizens of the United States who have made outstanding contributions to Lower Manhattan and New York City.
MODEL CITIZENS
Why can’t every building do its garbage and recycling this way, instead of the piles of plastic bags filled with cardboard that has not been collapsed? Gee Whiz looks like this every night. And it hurts my head to think of how many trucks it takes to clear out the packaging we toss every day…

The filed alteration costs shown in the DoB records are ludicrously low: $150,000 for 6,000 SF of architectural renovations plus $75,000 for structural.
M00837910: “SCOPE OF WORK TO PERFORM INTERIOR RENOVATION AT THE 4TH THROUGH 6TH FLOORS AND CONVERT MEZZANINE INTO 7TH FLOOR. CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY TO CHANGE THE USE OF THE 6TH MEZZANINE INTO THE 7TH FLOOR PART OF CLASS A APARTMENT.”
M00844700: “SCOPE OF WORK INCLUDES NEW CONVENIENCE STAIRWAY OPENING, ENLARGING EXISTING FIRE ESCAPES, ADJUSTING FLOOR PLATE ELEVATIONS AND NEW SKYLIGHT ON EXISTING ROOF AS INDICATED ON PLANS”
(As an aside I wonder if the addition of a 7th floor here makes them subject to the 5-year facade inspection cycle FISP fka Local Law 11.)
