Fuze House, a mat-based workout rooted in Pilates that was founded in Miami during the pandemic, has opened in the former YogaSpark space on Duane and Hudson — now a beachy-looking renovated studio warmed for workouts with infrared heat.
The company was founded by Eli Kaylin, who was working as a master instructor at a megaformer Pilates studio in Miami when the pandemic hit and gyms closed. During that “break,” she developed a strength training method with elements of Pilates, but on a mat with nothing more than light weights. Her clients loved it — and that was the genesis of Fuze House.
The first studio in Miami opened in April 2022, the second in spring 2024. They (Eli’s husband, Evan, helps her run the business — which with two young children is a bit of a juggle across the two cities) opened a studio in Chelsea last summer.
The new openings happened sort of organically. Clients in Miami, many of whom were New Yorkers, pushed them to open a studio here — “Every day we heard from clients — ‘You have to come to New York, there’s nothing like it in the city,'” Evan said. “So it was kind of a seamless transition.” They found a second-generation space they loved in Chelsea, after looking all over town.
But then the Chelsea clients, who largely live Downtown, also requested another studio.
It seems the Tribeca location (which really does look like Jenni Kayne decorated it) is already working. A quick glance at today’s schedule shows two of the nine classes are sold out.
The classes include (though not all are offered yet in Tribeca):
Eli and Evan may look to open more studios, but right now, Evan said, “we are focused on making sure everyone is happy here.”
