Longtime Tribecan and painter Linda Gottesfeld has a show up through April 5 at George Adams Gallery at 39 Walker. Run over while you can. It’s special.
The show is titled “Road Trip” — a collection of landscapes Linda worked on between 1997 to 2016 as seen from the vantage point of a moving car. Highways, gas stations and rolling fields are painted on salvaged metal, including car body panels and locker doors. The contours of these found objects dictate her compositions, and expand and distort the images.
Linda, a professor of art at Pace since 1994, earned her BFA from RISD and her MFA from the University of California, Berkeley, where she studied with Elmer Bischoff, worked as a teaching assistant for Joan Brown, and was mentored by Roy De Forest, whose ties to Bay Area Funk were a significant influence. Her practice also included welding and ceramics.
Her work has been featured in exhibitions at the Fitchburg Art Museum in Massachusetts, The Drawing Center here in the city, and the Hyde Collection in Glens Falls, among others. She has been the recipient of numerous residencies, including the Moulin á Nef Residency in Auvillar, France, and Yaddo in Saratoga Springs.
