An award-winning children’s performer is at Whole Foods every week

I think, for the toddler set, this may be the neighborhood’s best kept secret. (Or it’s not a secret at all and I am just too old.) (and thanks to A. for the tip and the pic.)

Every Wednesday at 10a, Hopalong Andrew, aka singer-songwriter Andrew Vladeck, performs for free upstairs at Whole Foods. New York magazine calls him “the countryfied king of our children’s entertainment circuit.”

Vladeck is a folk and Western music artist from the city who performs original and traditional songs, and his recordings include his multi-award-winning debut album “Howdy Do!” which celebrates city life and it’s inspirational “can do spirit.” His upcoming release, “Everybody’s Invited to the Party” honors the incredible-but-true heritage of the American West.

As Hopalong Andrew, Vladeck also performs large concerts with a full band for major events and venues such as Wolf Trap National Park, the New York Public Library, Central Park, Bryant Park and the Brooklyn Folk Festival.

He also performs for his weekday morning concert series — of which Whole Foods is a part and as chronicled in New York magazine’s feature, “Hopalong Andrew Is the Hardest Working Cowboy Musician in Brooklyn.”

Vladeck has performed countless times at Bowery Ballroom and Mercury Lounge — most recently for their the Mercury Lounge’s 25th Anniversary series — and has also collaborated with many renowned musicians and won various songwriting awards, including 1st Place in International Songwriting Competition, and nods from Billboard, IMAs, GASC, UKSC. He’s shared bills with The National, Andrew Bird, Norah Jones, Soulive, Beth Orton, Moe, Jeff Buckley, Ani DiFranco and many more. His main side project during the ’00s, The Honey Brothers (with actor Adrian Grenier), had a very active and unusual decade, touring four continents and playing top music festivals.
