Local barber Deni Mrkulić has taken the classic corner at 5 Harrison for his newly opened Staple Street Barbers. It’s a lovely, very cool spot, tricked it out with antique barber chairs, exposed brick, leather loungers and of course the huge glass windows on two sides. (Ethan Rose Salon was in that space from 2016 to 2021.)
Deni started cutting hair at 16 in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro — giving haircuts to high school classmates for pocket money. He had learned the trade from his mother who cut hair for decades. “It’s in my blood,” he said.
He came to the US at 18 and immediately started working as a barber in Westchester, then moved to a shop on Wall Street, then the West Village and eventually Tribeca, where he’s cut hair for six years. (He lives in Jersey.) One of his customers said if he wanted to open his own shop, he would help him out — and here we are. He has two other barbers working for him already.
They offer haircuts, shaves, crew cuts, kids cuts, beard trims and a hot towel shave, ranging from $60 to $40. See the price schedule here.
Also, the team said to use the code TribecaCitizen10 when you book online for $10 off. (Once you get to the credit card step, look for the “add code” option.)
