KIWI THE KITTEN REUNITED AT SHELTER
A little kitten escaped from her home in Florida a year and a half ago and was just reunited with her family at Best Friends Animal Society on Canal and West Broadway. Here’s how it all happened: When the kitten disappeared in Florida, Lourdes Ortiz and her daughter searched around their neighborhood and asked local shelters for help. Months passed and there was no sign of Kiwi. They then had to leave her behind when they moved to New York City a year ago to care for a sick relative. Fast forward to this spring, when Kiwi was picked up as a stray in Florida and scanned — Ortiz was contacted, but could not make the trip to pick her up. Best Friends arranged for the cat to be delivered. “Leaving Florida without Kiwi was heartbreaking, not only for me, but for my 13-year-old daughter who loved her dearly,” said Ortiz. The family was reunited with her on April 3.
