REVOLUTIONARY HISTORY AT FRAUNCES TAVERN
Fraunces Tavern will host an exhibit called “Path to Liberty: The Emergence of a Nation” commemorating the United States’ Semiquincentennial and telling the history of the American Revolution from 1775 to 1783, with a distinctive focus on what occurred in New York State and the surrounding areas. (The roof of Fraunces Tavern, Manhattan’s oldest building, was hit by a cannonball during the Revolutionary War.) The show includes personal letters, artifacts, and works of art from the museum’s permanent collection that define key moments, such as the Battles of Lexington and Concord and the Declaration of Independence.
M2 AND M4 BUS ROUTES WILL BE CAMERA ENFORCED
This isn’t really local local, but the city is starting to roll out automated camera enforcement on bus routes. The M2 and M4 are the most recent out of 34 current routes; 1000 buses also have cameras. When they get to the routes around here I will do a bigger post. In the meantime, these start April 28. Vehicles improperly using busways and bus lanes, blocking bus stops, or illegally double parked will receive warning notices in the mail for an initial period of 60 days followed by summonses thereafter. Summonses start at $50 and escalate to $250 for repeat violators.
SALON DESIGN WILL OPEN IN THE WEST VILLAGE
Amanda Pratt, who had her gallery and design collective, Salon, on Vestry, has relaunched in the West Village. The new business is called AM Collective and she also has a new space — 2600 square feet in a townhouse at 29 Bethune called Villa AM. The new location will allow her to present contemporary design in a domestic setting and to offer programming as well. More info here.
