The City Hall Greenmarket is back after an extended covid break — in fact the note about covid is still on their website. Opening day is Tuesday, May 6, at Broadway and Chambers. Market hours are 8a to 4p, though NB some farmers leave earlier. It will run through Nov. 25. Exciting!
I assume they will have the usual offerings, but so far the GrowNYC website only lists Jersey Farm Produce Vegetables, herbs, orchard and small fruit from Hunterdon County, NJ, and Meredith’s Country Bakery Baked goods from Ulster County, NY.
Like all the markets, they will accept cash, credit, SNAP/EBT, Healthfirst OTC Plus members (select plans), WIC & Senior FMNP coupons, FreshConnect coupons, and Greenmarket Bucks.
This will be an ok (timing-wise and sort of location) substitute for the Tribeca Wednesday market that has been discontinued starting this spring.
I was unaware it had been discontinued. What was the reason?
It wasn’t busy enough so Jersey Farm moved to another market in Queens before the end of last season. The other produce vendor who had been there for the past 3 years also told me he wasn’t coming back because he wasn’t selling enough to make it worthwhile to drive in from Pennsylvania.
Anyone know if the vegetables and fruits are organic/not sprayed with pesticides?
