Hobby Lobby (ICYMI the craft store chain that has taken the full floor that once housed Barnes & Noble and Bed Bath & Beyond) is aiming to open on Monday, May 12. They are recruiting staff now outside the store and the ground floor lobby at the foot of the escalators looks largely renovated already. Thanks to J. for the shot of the Hobby Lobby lobby.
They are accepting applications now through Saturday, from 8a to 5p, at 270 Greenwich for temporary, part-time setup jobs at $18 an hour. Their job listing says those jobs *might* turn into full-time jobs based on performance, at $19-20 an hour. Their full-time positions come with medical benefits (but not contraception!), paid vacation, sick pay, employee discounts and a 401K with a company match.
And as we all know, you never have to work on Sunday.
Store hours will be Monday to Saturday, 9a to 8p.

Info about Hobby Lobby culled from the Tribeca Citizen. Important to note that journalist did not credit her sources. TC was the first up to bat on this issue.
Such tacky signage. How many times do you need to tell us you are Hobby Lobby? We aren’t that stupid … it’s almost insulting. Can anyone say strip mall vibes?
Wonderful news!! Welcome Hobby Lobby..we need you here!
It is wonderful news. I very excited that have Lobby Hobby in the neighborhood.
Agreed! Welcome any new business to the neighborhood – never let people who wear masks in 2025 while driving alone in their cars let you think they really reflect the residents of our neighborhood. They are squeaky wheels and rage against anyone who does not think like them. Less empty storefronts!
I’d be fine with “live and let live” re: shopping or working there, if companies with their beliefs didn’t evangelize and try to force the rest of us into submission.
Since they refuse to abide by that, we have every right to be active in our disapproval.
As for mocking those who continue to mask, I guess you think people who are immunocompromised, or otherwise high risk, should let themselves sick and die, because you think they’re weird. Eugenics is a really bad look.
Evangelical, anti-gay, anti providing coverage for contraceptives to employees, comes to Tribeca. We’ll see how they fare. Probably well.
I will NEVER set foot in that store! Shame on anyone who does!
Really hate to see this. Feels like a Christian right invasion. A google search reveals all.
So many people believe everything they read on the internet. HL does offer over 15 forms of birth control on their plan. It’s the abortion pill they don’t want to offer due to their beliefs. I for one, admire a company that sticks by their beliefs even if I don’t agree with everything they do. Refreshing. Back to common sense living. I don’t know if they have what I like, but I look forward to something new in our area.
If you don’t like their values, don’t shop there. If you don’t like their benefits plan, don’t work there. But stop thinking you have the right to tell me where I should shop or work.
I miss the Barnes & Noble, thats it.
