143 Franklin, the very handsome brick building on the south side just west of Varick, sold in December for $34.5 million. The seller was Krinos Properties, which acquired the property in 1973. Krinos Foods is North America’s largest importer, distributor and manufacturer of Greek, Turkish and Eastern European specialty foods, their website says. Their New York facility is now in the Bronx.
The buyers were CNY Group, a construction management and development company that converted the Woolworth Building along with tons of other big city projects. The LLC then took a mortgage in January for $49.5 million. They must be planning to turn it into condos. Right now *I think* there are six rental units.
Urban Archeology was the longtime tenant of the entire building — all six floors, where they manufactured their new pieces — from 1995 until 2015. A year later the opened their current retail shop across the street.
You can read Tom Miller’s history of the building here.
I also saw that 50 Hudson sold, so maybe the construction for that building will finally get finished.
one of the best blocks in Tribeca, even if I say so myself!
