NY VINTNERS IS NOW THE FOYER
New York Vintners, which had just finished renovations of a super cool space on Warren when covid hit (this post is from March 3, 2020) has rebranded its bar at 100 Church and it is now named The Foyer. The bar is open to the public starting today, 5 to 10p, Tuesday through Saturday. They have also revamped the menu and expanded our wine list to over 700 offerings. More very soon.
SHAKESPEARE DOWNTOWN THIS MONTH
Shakespeare Downtown presents free performances of Tennessee Williams’ controversial and rarely performed “Tiger Tale” at Castle Clinton in The Battery from June 12 to 22, 6:30p. Geoffrey Horne directs Williams’ play about sexuality and power, based on Elia Kazan’s film “Baby Doll,” which itself was based on Williams’ one-act “27 Wagons Full of Cotton.” Archie Lee (Steven J. Cambria), a down-at-the-heels Mississippi cotton gin owner with a child bride, Baby Doll (Billie Andersson) crosses rival gin owner Silva Vacarro (Juan Pablo Toro) – the Sicilian who exacts his revenge by seducing the young bride. Doors open at 5:45p each night. See more info here.
OLIVE’S IS OPENING SLOWLY
Olive’s had a soft opening this weekend — if you were lucky, like A. who sent this shot, you got a first pour from owner Nick Hartman. More soon when things are fully operational, but watch (and I mean that literally — you have to just happen by) for some hours with a limited menu starting this week. (By the way, that beer happens to be a Lunch from Maine Beer Company, one of the all-time best.)
