Seen & Heard: BPC farmers market has performance for kids

BPC FARMERS MARKET HOSTS SUZI SHELTON
This week’s Battery Park City Farmers Market — Sunday, June 15, from 9a to 2p — will feature a special Father’s Day performance from Suzi Shelton at 11a at the Irish Hunger Memorial. (Also, River Terrace will be closed to vehicle traffic from Murray Street to North End Avenue during market hours on Sundays through Nov 23.)

FIREWORKS WILL BE ON THE EAST RIVER THIS YEAR
The Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks return to the East River this year, and the Seaport is hosting a bunch of paid experiences — see those options here. Public viewing will be available from any area with an unobstructed view of the sky above the lower East River with the show launched from the Brooklyn Bridge and four surrounding barges. Additional details on public viewing, as well as a city-sponsored lottery for free public viewing tickets, will be announced in the coming weeks.

PROGRESS AT MODERN BAGELS
I know this doesn’t look like much, but it looks like progress! Or at least like they are getting some work done at Modern Bagels, which took the lease at the restaurant inside the former Duane Street Hotel on Church. Exciting.

CHINATOWN MARKET THIS WEEKEND
The clothing line Chinatown Social is hosting a free market with 20+ hand-picked vendors — artists and small businesses across fashion, food and design — this Saturday and Sunday, from 11a to 6p, at 200 Canal (Mulberry & Mott) in the former Kam Man Market — a historic cornerstone of Chinatown. Their mission is to support and uplift the AAPI community through local small businesses, cultural preservation and community development.

  1. This is a clarification about the location of the Chinatown Market in Kam Man Market. It is on the (closed) second floor. Gratefully, Kam Man is open and vibrant as ever, and continues to serve the community with Asian groceries, a small apothecary, savory barbecued meats to go, as well as housewares and beauty supplies in the basement. Stop by!

  2. The Chinatown Market is inside the still active and vibrant Kam Man market at 200 Canal. The clothing market is on the second floor. Kam Man is a wonderful Asian grocery store, with a small apothecary, delicious roasted meats to go, and a housewares/beauty dept in the basement. Stop by!
