NOBU DOCUMENTARY AT TRIBECA FILM FEST
The film festival will show a new documentary about chef Nobu Matsuhisa, who of course opened Nobu here with Robert De Niro and Drew Nieporent. Directed and produced by Matt Tyrnauer, the movie traces Nobu’s journey from his childhood in Japan to the transformative experiences that shaped him in Peru and Alaska, ultimately leading to the creation of his iconic restaurants, Matsuhisa and Nobu. Beyond his artistic mastery, the film also explores the evolution of the Nobu restaurant group into a global symbol of luxury and hospitality. See screenings here.
TRYING NOT TO BE DIFFICULT
Tribeca OG restaurateur Drew Nieporent (above on the left), who just closed Tribeca Grill and Batard, has announced that his memoir will come out in September. It’s titled “I’m Not Trying To Be Difficult. “So many wonderful memories and people that I’ve encountered throughout the years, I looking forward to sharing some stories,” he wrote, “and it’s been a full and fabulous life. Looking forward to a bright and delicious future.” More soon.
JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION IN BPC
Battery Park City Authority will host its annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 14, 2p, in Rockefeller Park at Chambers with an afternoon of storytelling, pony rides, music, arts and crafts and more. The Federation of Black Cowboys will share the history of Juneteenth and kids ages 3 and up can take a pony ride. The Ebony Hillbillies, an old-time string band, will play classic music that draws on pop, country, bluegrass, folk and jazz. Families will have the opportunity to paint their own Juneteenth flag. Hibiscus Brew, a Black woman-owned cafe, will serve free iced hibiscus tea.
PASCALINE’S FAVORITES
The IG account VinePair interviews Pascaline Lepeltier, the somm at Chambers, in a lightening round about her favorite “hidden gems.” It’s a fun list, with Frenchette Bakery for a ham sandwich to pair with champagne; Terroir for the wine list; Chambers Street Wines for the hard-to-find bottles among picks across the city.
Frenchette Bakery’s Jambon Beurre (ham sandwich) is simply the best in the city, IMHO. Just three perfect ingredients: baguette, butter, and ham – it’s shear perfection!
