A neighbor sent this video over the weekend: An arsonist lit several fires in the neighborhood late Friday night, and as you can see here, he fed the fires from nearby trash piles. Two of them were at 415 and 430 Greenwich. One super came out with a broom to try to snuff the flames.
The FDNY reported that they got a call at 10:59p on Friday, of a reported rubbish fire. No injuries were reported and they had no other information. (Neighbors did go to the 1st Precinct and Ladder 8, where officers said a truck had responded from a station in Soho.)
Nuts.
There were similar fires on West Broadway in March — one of which sent up clouds of smoke across a couple blocks — and the FDNY said there would be no investigation of those.
FDNY arrived 45 mins after the 911 call. NYPD arrived one hour after that 911 call. Residents put the fire out.
What we get for the public officials that have been voted in… i HOPE we dodge that disaster that can be if the other guy gets nominated … i for one will vote republican down the ballot
He will be handing out the free matches
What a shame that your only commentary about our emergency services is around politics. Not sure why public officials have anything to do with the fire department putting out fires, literally their job.
Get your nypost out of here
In the last couple of years until few months ago there was a youngish black man who I have seen at least three times lighting fire along buildings on Beach/ Walker who eventually moved into the Canal Street station and settled for awhile. He was decked out in dreadlocks, tattoos, multiple piercings and jewels. His encampment consisted of many candles and ritualistic looking objects and messy food stuff. Sometimes there was even feces on the floor or on the wall around him. All that was going on when the precinct police was just down the hall. Yes I did see him with a small fire burning indoors once.
Don’t know what happened but he hasn’t returned after the renovation of the station.
Honestly I can’t fathom this happening in any city in any country I have been to.
Zero consequences in this city, what do you expect
