The spa at the Nexus Club is now open to the public

The spa at the NEXUS Club, the private urban country club on Church and Park Place, is now open to the public. Naturopathica, a spa that was founded in East Hampton as an herbal apothecary at their Healing Arts Center 30 years ago, now has six locations, including one in Midtown (the one in Chelsea closed recently), as well as 300 satellite locations in hotels and resorts around the country.

While the club is private, the elevator at 100 Church opens onto a long hallway with a reception desk; the spa entrance is down the hallway to the left, on the other side of the club rooms. And it is a nicely appointed, very simple and relaxing space: white, wood and low lighting.

When the NEXUS club opened in 2019, the club was intended to be a resource for members only, but when they opened to the public (I toured last year, and am just catching up) they also expanded the space, opening another treatment room and extending hours.

Founded in 1995 by Barbara Close, an esthetician, massage therapist, aromatherapist and herbalist, Naturopathica is now known for its massage-based facials and massages and now offers a wide range of skin care products that they developed over the decades. They have a menu of seven different facials, starting at $210 for 60 minutes (though there is an express facial for $120), as well as added treatments such as dermaplaning, lymphatic facial massage, LED therapy, gua sha eye treatments, foot therapy — to name a few. They have a menu of massages as well, along with neck, back and foot enhancements.

They also have developed an Oncology Care program to provide specific treatments for cancer patients undergoing or recovering from chemotherapy. The services are designed to deliver the therapeutic benefits of touch, provide deep moisture, and alleviate the discomfort from radiation and chemotherapy, using botanical, non-toxic products. Close created two of her original formulas — calendula essential hydrating cream and carrot seed soothing facial oil — to remedy her mother’s aggravated skin while she was receiving cancer treatments. The program is now practiced at Mount Sinai and Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center in Philadelphia, offering massage therapy to patients during chemotherapy.

You can book online here, or call for hours.
