THE COST OF A SELF-FUNDED CAMPAIGN
The Times wrote a post-mortem on Tribecan Elizabeth Lewinsohn’s campaign for our City Council seat, noting that her mostly self-funded campaign spent roughly the same amount her tab would have cost if she took each of her supporters out for dinner at the Odeon. “Of the $568,665 her campaign put toward securing the Democratic nomination in a district that covers the bottom tip of Manhattan, $522,000 came from a source with whom she was intimately acquainted: Elizabeth Lewinsohn.” (I will note that of that nearly $600,000, she spent $700 in advertising in the TC!)
SPRING PLACE DEFAULTS ON RENT
Crain’s reports that Spring Place New York, the coworking space on Varick and Canal designed for filmmakers and other creatives, received a notice of default 12 months ago after falling delinquent on $5.1 million in base rent and common charges. From Crain’s: “Spring Place’s chief financial officer, Giovanni Palacardo, said the debt was incurred after the pandemic shut the place down and the matter has been resolved with the building’s landlord.”
JFK JR’S TRIBECA APARTMENT FEATURED IN FILM
House Beautiful reflects on the details of John Kennedy Jr.’s N. Moore apartment, which will be featured in the upcoming show “American Love Story.” “Kennedy and Bessette planted roots together in the Triangle Below Canal Street in the summer of 1995, one year before their wedding in September 1996. The two-bedroom loft on 20 North Moore Street was their first and only home together…Kennedy bought the apartment in 1994 for $700,000 and affectionately nicknamed the space ‘Home Depot’ and ‘The Warehouse’ as a nod to its industrial aesthetic.”
FASHION DESIGNER LELA ROSE SELLING APARTMENT
6sqft has a feature on the maisonette loft at 46 White listed now by fashion designer Lela Rose. The “6,000-square-foot maisonette loft at 46 White Street has an upside-down layout, with a dramatic entertainment level equipped with a retractable dining table that can fit nearly 70 people or expand to become a catwalk. Other unconventional additions include a dog elevator, a hidden tequila tasting room, and a red-carpeted dressing room.”
I find the NYT piece tendentious, at best. From the 11th paragraph on it sounds like it was written by a political operative. It wasn’t; the author is a veteran Times columnist, but one whose motives I’ve often had reason to question.
Since we’re talking about films, the new Chloe Song film Materialists was filmed in many locations in Tribeca. The apartment is the building at the corner of Washington and Vestry, the restaurants were l’abeille and the sushi place next door, and they have many street scenes in front of Brandy Library!
