Man who was seen jumping into Hudson is not found by FDNY

A man who witnesses said jumped into the Hudson River at Pier 40 yesterday evening was not found after an extensive search by the FDNY.

T. sent over these remarkable pictures — a huge crowd had gathered along the bulkhead as he was walking by at around 6:45p last night, and EMTs and fire trucks were stacked in the driveway of the pier.

Police said they responded to a 911 call at 6:30p for a water rescue in the vicinity of 353 West Street, the address of Pier 40. Officers from the 6th Precinct, along with the NYPD’s Harbor Unit and the FDNY, responded to the scene and canvassed the waterway and shoreline. After an hourlong search, the man was not located.

The investigation remains ongoing.

  1. Anyone know more of a description of the man who jumped in? I ask because I saw someone there at that time who looked frantic like he was going to do something crazy. He looked like he was having mental health trouble. He was barefoot and only in dirty sweatpants. I hope he is ok. Curious for more details about the person who jumped why do none of the news articles have any details!

  2. Do you take any video from the incident? I’m asking because the person who jumped was my nephew.
