A woman jumped in the Hudson River yesterday morning and swam out for yards before she disappeared under the surface. Two passers-by then jumped into the water to assist her but were unsuccessful, police said, and had to be rescued themselves. The woman who jumped in first has not been found.
J. sent a note around 10 yesterday morning, after witnessing the crowds gathered once again along the bulkhead at Canal and Pier 34, with first responders’ vehicles stacked two deep on the highway.
The NYPD’s Harbor Unit and FDNY are actively canvassing the area for the woman. The investigation remains ongoing.

Last Thursday, a man jumped into the river near Pier 40, and after an extensive search by NYPD divers and harbor units, he was not found. On Sunday, at about 6:30pm, police found the man unconscious and unresponsive. The NYPD Harbor Unit responded and removed him from the water. EMS responded and pronounced him deceased on the scene. His identity of the deceased is pending at this time.
