Seen & Heard: New Greek bakery and cafe on Church

NEW GREEK CAFE ON CHURCH AND WHITE
B. sent photos and a shot of the menu at a new Greek bakery at 293 Church between White and Walker — Artion Cafe. Will stop by soon. They don’t seem to have a digital footprint, but Google reports their hours are 7:30a to 6:30p. More soon. Would be great to see something nice settle in here since the space has had a lot of tenants, some who caused problems for neighbors. The most recent was the Revolving Store; before that was L’Entree, which was closed by the marshal.

EMILIA GEORGE EXPANDS TO CALI
Emilia George, the maternity clothing line that was launched here in 2022 and has since expanded into classic children’s clothing as well as post-partum togs, has opened its third location, this time in Newport Beach, California. They also have a store in Atlanta. Find them here.

CITYSTORE GOES ONLINE
The CityStore, which, if you read the TC Shop-Local Gift Guide around the holidays, is one of my fave places to shop, is closing for the summer for (much needed) renovations. They have also launched a website to coincide with the closure. Find the Central Park tea towel, an FDNY doggy-overcoat, city seal cufflinks, am MTA token sterling necklace, and a DSNY miniature garbage truck toy. Find them here.

  1. Is it maybe an offshoot of this cafe in Astoria?

  2. Visited Artion Bakery today and (admittedly) sampled many of the authentic Greek cookies and the delicious I-can’t-believe-it’s-vegan banana bread and carrot bread. Vasiliki (“Vicky”) was so welcoming confirmed that it is the same owners as Artion in Astoria (there’s also a midtown location). Savory items are made on premises, and the pastries are brought in from Astoria. Great addition to the neighborhood.
