An all-day cafe and natural wine bar is coming to the Park Place side of the Woolworth Building, taking over the former Five & Dime, which closed in April.
In their presentation to Community Board 1, the operators of Wonder Bar, who also have also taken the former Wooly space on the Barclay side of the building for a nightclub called Goody’s, said they were asked by the owners of the Woolworth Building — Cammeby’s International and Witkoff — to expand into this space. (The two spaces are not physically connected.) The food offerings will be fast-casual grab-and-go breakfast and lunch; wine by night. “This is a much more tame method of operation — no DJs, no live music,” their lawyer said at the meeting.
They asked for the same hours (till 2a on weekends) but if I heard the CB1 members correctly, the committee granted them 8a to midnight Monday to Wednesday; Thursday till 1a; Friday and Saturday to midnight; Sunday to 10p.
They also had a request for outdoor seating on their application, though it did not come up at the meeting.
Their press release made it sound like they are redesigning the space? Seems like a waste to me since it is still so nicely appointed thanks to Five & Dime…
