Good trouble in the neighborhood

Photos by Jini Sachse

Lots of neighbors marched for the “Good Trouble Lives On Within Us” National Day of Action honoring John Lewis yesterday, organizing at Foley Square, then marching down Chambers, up Church, and ending at 26 Federal Plaza. Thanks to E. and Jini Sachse for the photos. They then sat down on Broadway and observed several minutes of silence to honor those who have been arrested by ICE.

Tribecan Alvin Eng wrote to say that there will be a Rise and Resist community immigration vigil on Thursday, July 24, noon to 1p, at 26 Federal Plaza. “We hope Tribecans can join us next week to demand justice for Luis and all of our neighbors who are being illegally abducted without due process,” Alvin wrote.

  1. Why resist?

Let ICE clean up Canal Street and South Ferry with all its counterfeit sellers and tourist scammers. All the illegal migrants there give Chinatown and NYC in general a terrible reputation and perpetuates an awful stereotype for the Chinese community.

Local officials are utterly incompetent in fixing this issue and enforcing the law. We should welcome a federal solution to it.
