It’s been nearly a year since Nala’s opened on Reade — so I know there are already a few devotees out there. The sandwich shop is in the former Mexican spot, just next to Hello! Vietpho — they share the space. And when I popped in recently, the folks at the register said there were plans to expand to another location nearby soon.

The menu is heavy on sandwiches, of course, but they have a little bit of everything — quinoa bowls, avocado toast, kale salad. We did the loaded everything bagel — which was perfectly toasted — BEC, and it was more like an omelette on a bagel. Perfect. And the chicken parm is shredded chicken tossed in marinara, with sliced mozzarella on panini, which was smooth and flat. Ask them to heat it. (Don’t trust the website for the menu — it is much more expansive than what they have listed there.)

Prices are a couple dollars cheaper that the average for these times: the chicken parm was $13; the sausage burrito breakfast sandwich is $12. And they cater!
