TWO MORE CONCERTS IN DUANE PARK
The Friends of Duane Park will host two more concerts in the park: Thursday, August 28, 6:30-8p, is music students from Borough of Manhattan Community College showcasing a variety of contemporary and original material. And Thursday, September 4, 6:30 – 8p, is Tomoko Sugawara on the harp. She studied harps at Tokyo University of Arts, came to the city to study ancient harp, and in 2013 founded Eurasia Consort. She plays the renaissance harp, the Baroque triple harp and ancient Asian harp, the kugo.
SALSA AT THE WORLD TRADE CENTER
Westfield World Trade Center will host two salsa nights on the Oculus Plaza on Wednesdays Sept. 18 and Oct. 2, from 6 to 9p, featuring a free salsa lesson led by renowned dancer and choreographer Talia Castro-Pozo, followed by open dancing under the city lights. Beginners and seasoned dancers welcome. Admission is free. More info here.
GOVERNORS ISLAND GETS AN ELECTRIC FERRY
Governors Island’s electric ferry is now launched and named: The Harbor Charger is the first hybrid-electric public ferry to operate in New York State. The arrival of the new boat coincides with the 20-year anniversary of Governors Island opening to the public. The Harbor Charger was named following a citywide naming competition that drew more than 800 submissions from nauticalophiles across the five boroughs. The winning name was submitted by David Kurnov of Brooklyn. The $33 million craft can travel faster than current ferries.
