Orangetheory is closing in two weeks

Orangetheory, the very popular interval workout that opened here in December 2023 on Hudson and Duane, will close on September 24. What a terrible waste. They totally tricked out that space, which as you recall was Ninja! So it was completely transformed. Thanks to K. for the heads-up; she said the reason stated was not enough members and lack of promotion.

The chain is a franchise, and this, according to the folks who gave me a tour when they opened, is the biggest one in Manhattan, with room for 16 people at each of three stations. So a class can run with as many as 48, with each group leaving its station and moving to a different one every 20 minutes or so.

The franchisee, Empire Portfolio Group, has seven other Orangetheorys in Manhattan as well as another 130+ locations on the East Coast. The Fidi location on William is run by a different group; the Soho location is independent.

Orangetheory itself was founded in 2010 in Fort Lauderdale by physiologist Ellen Latham, a physiologist who first designed what she calls The Ultimate Workout. That evolved into Orangetheory, which now has more than 1500 locations worldwide.

Kidding/not kidding: they should have advertised local.
