DRAG RACING ENDS IN CRASH
Both S. and H. witnessed an accident a couple weeks ago (sorry, buried it) at the corner of Church and Leonard, which sent a van careening into the construction site at 250 Church. According to S.’s doorman, it seems that two Mercedes-Benz vehicles were drag racing when one of them hit a van. After the collision, the driver of the other Mercedes reportedly picked up the individual from the crashed car and drove off. “It’s unfortunate — and quite concerning — that it took the ambulance and police about 30 minutes to arrive on the scene,” S. said.
MORE STARBUCKS CLOSURES?
J. sent along a Business Insider story that called around and talked to Starbucks employees to learn that the locations at 405 Broadway, at Walker, and 444 Broadway, just north of Howard in Soho, are also closing. “405 Broadway is always very crowded,” J. said. “Shocked they are closing this one.” They are 2.5 blocks apart…
GALLERY OPENS AT 5 LISPENARD
LATITUDE Gallery New York has taken the ground floor of 5 Lispenard, one of the Matera buildings that recently flipped. The gallery was founded in 2020 by Shihui Zhou, and it is dedicated to showcasing cutting-edge works of art by emerging Asian diaspora artists.
DAVID X. LEVINE AT STEVEN AMEDEE
Steven Amedee Gallery at 41 N. Moore is showing the work of David X. Levine, whose vivid, labor-intensive colored pencil drawings range in size from the intimate to the monumental (10” to 10’). Levine’s art has been the focus of more than a dozen solo exhibitions, as well as being included in dozens of group exhibitions. The artist was born in Boston in 1962, and has been living in NYC since 2000. There’s an opening reception on Oct. 8 at 6p.

Regarding the drag racing on Church St, we’ve been hearing sounds late at night of racing vehicles on Church St — often sounds like motorcycles but could also be cars. They go by so fast I haven’t been able to get a photo. This has increased dramatically this year.
This is common on Broadway also. Typically with modified engines to be as loud and rude as possible.
