JAY’S PIZZA COMING TO CHAMBERS
Thanks to A. for the shot: Jay’s Pizza is coming soon to 146 Chambers, which had Olive Branch deli in it for a quick second — it was the former Zucker’s spot before they moved across the street in August 2023.
THE LILAC IS OPEN THIS WEEKEND
The lightship Lilac docked on Pier 25 will be open this weekend, Saturday & Sunday, October 18 & 19, from 2 to 7p. There will be a kids’ coloring station with maritime-themed coloring sheets and volunteers available to learn about Lilac’s history and discuss the restoration work. There’s also an exhibit on the Erie Canal and a pop-up poetry reading with Kyle Carrero Lopez at 6p on Saturday.
JAY STREET GETTING READY FOR HALLOWEEN
I checked with a resident on Jay about the elaborate Halloween installation they put out on the corner at Greenwich — and it’s on its way. The install was delayed a couple days because of rain, but it’s happening this week. The building is also hoping to close the street for a block party, but they have not received the permits yet.
COMMEMORATING REVOLUTIONARY VICTORIES
The Lower Manhattan Historical Association will host the 12th annual commemoration of the American victories of Saratoga and Yorktown on Saturday, October 18, 2 to 3:30p at St. Paul’s Chapel. Both General Horatio Gates, the commanding general at the Battle of Saratoga, and Alexander Hamilton, a key aide to General George Washington and the leader the climactic charge against redoubt 10 at the Battle of Yorktown, are buried at Trinity Churchyard. Additionally, the Battle of Yorktown is symbolic of the United States of America’s oldest military alliance. Powerful French land forces, commanded by the Comte de Rochambeau, and an equally important and sizable French eet, commanded by the Comte de Grasse, played a crucial role in the defeat and capitulation of the British army.
