The 2025 Shop-Local Gift Guide starts here

No one believes me — not even local shopkeepers — when I say there are more than 50 shops in Tribeca proper. So there is no reason to NOT shop local. My pals and I hit all of them over the past week, and I can promise you, there are treasures out there.

But there were some losses: Everafter has closed its entire chain of children’s clothing stores; Baboo closed its home goods brick-and-mortar; Jacadi has been replaced by Peach Bling; Metal Alchemist closed on Reade. And local shopping has taken a hit over the years. Since 2022, I think we are down more than a dozen shops.

We do have some excellent newcomers: Words on Warren; Hashi Market; and William White with its first shop on Canal, where there has been an explosion of new retail.

For the 2025 Shop-Local Gift Guide, expect entries this week on kids, threads, baubles, home goods, food, the unique among the unique and the most difficult category: teens.

We tried to suggest a high and a low, but for some of our shops — more power to them — it’s a high/high. And in some cases we were just drawn to items whether the price was low, high or in the middle. Still, it doesn’t cost a penny to look.

These lists are all Tribeca, all the time, save for one special outlier: Pearl River Mart, for the obvious reasons and for the exceptional shopping. And there are two noted shops that I do not include since they do not permit photos: Thom Browne and Issey Miyake.
