Happy Thanksgiving to all, and thanks to all who make this a great place to live

Each Thanksgiving I like to acknowledge and thank the folks who volunteer countless hours to make Tribeca one of the most cohesive and welcoming neighborhoods in this town. A special focus this year goes to Downtown Soccer League, which has been serving the kids of Tribeca with a massive volunteer operation for 32 years — even through covid.

It’s hard to imagine life with children here minus the leagues: for my family and I know hundreds and hundreds of others, the DSL not only gave our city kids a chance to play sports, but created lifelong friendships. And for kids whose school lives take them all over the city, having a crew of pals and teammates in Tribeca is what makes this place feel like home.

As always, my thanks to you readers, commenters and subscribers — you make this whole thing go ’round *and* are my eyes and ears — and to my sponsors and advertisers, who make the Tribeca Citizen an actual (small) business. A special shout-out this season to A., N., G. and J. — you know who you are. I rely on your sharp eyes and noses for news week after week. I also know you do it because you love this neighborhood.

Happy Thanksgiving.

  1. Although it is not solely Tribeca based, the head office of Big Apple Greeters a home-grown, free volunteer-run tour guide operation has its headquarters at 1 Centre Street. Many of the ‘Greeters’ (of which I was one for more than 10 years) live locally and take visitors to the sights and sounds of downtown in small groups showing them things they might not otherwise see and helping them with the subway, a local’s knowledge and NY cred! The organization has spawned sister organizations in many other cities in the world.

  2. Trinity Church, yes I know is in FiDi, offers amazing programs to those in need – Compassion Meals, 5 days a week, 3 hot meals a day, Compassion Market, 2 times per week and many more amazing programs and services.
