Seen & Heard: Registration is open for Downtown Little League

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR DOWNTOWN LITTLE LEAGUE
Downtown Little League’s registration period opened on December 1 and some divisions — especially the youngest ones — are filling up fast, the league said. Register here. Remember to have your proof of residence, school and age ready. There is a waitlist for full divisions. Also, the league is always looking for sponsors. Find that application here.

THE ARTISTRY OF WEAVING SCULPTURE
Tribecan Gina Barac, who runs the Helecho Collective, will be hosting an exhibit of handwoven works by the Wounaan, an indigenous community from the Chocó region of Colombia on the country’s Pacific coast, December 12–23, from 11a to 7p at Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery, 87 Franklin. Shown only twice before in the United States, the sculptural vessels represent one of the most refined fiber art traditions in the Americas — and one of the most endangered. In conjunction with the exhibit, a holiday gift shop will feature some of the finest Colombian craftsmanship, and some proceeds will benefit the children of Bambi Homes Bogota. There will be a reception on December 16 at 6p.

HELPING SMALL BUSINESS PREPARE FOR FLOODS
The NYC Department of Small Business Services will run an educational presentation to help small businesses prepare for floods on Monday, December 8, from 6 to 8:30p, at New York Law School, 185 West Broadway. Small businesses will receive a free flood preparedness kit that includes a sump pump, flood barriers, and a flood sensor alarm. RSVP required.

SURVIVING THE COLLAPSE OF THE TWIN TOWERS
The 9/11 Museum will host a conversation titled Rescue and Resiliency: Surviving the Collapse of the Twin Towers on Thursday, December 18, 6 to 7p. Port Authority Police Officer Will Jimeno was trapped with his partner on the concourse level of the World Trade Center and rescued 13 hours later by NYPD Emergency Services Unit detectives Paddy McGee Sr. and Scott Strauss. The three men will talk with museum president and CEO Beth Hillman, reflecting on how that day transformed their lives, their careers, and their sense of service today. Register here.
